And we’re back!
Thanks to all of you who expressed concern over the state of the RV and our whereabouts. I am happy to say that we made it out of Cody on the evening of our second night (not before all of us buying cowboy hats down on main street tho!). We drove as far as we could before it got completely dark then found the closest campground (some creepy little place in the woods where Natasha locked all the windows in the searing heat because she was afraid of an axe murderer coming in). At sunrise, safe and sound, we were on the road again toward Mount Rushmore! We stopped in historic Deadwood on the way for lunch (see pic below). We were standing at the base of Mount Rushmore just a little while later. Mount Rushmore really looks bigger in pictures. We probably spent more time in the gift shop than the monument. Next we went to Crazy Horse, which was actually a bit more impressive looking than Mount Rushmore. After we finished the monuments, we drove as far as we could again before it felt unsafe, then pulled off the road at some Walmart along the highway in Nebraska. BOY was it windy there! The booming wind woke us up around 4am and the RV was rocking like a cradle. We moved to park closer to the front door of WalMart in case we had to run inside for shelter. At 530am we took off with the sunrise toward Colorado, and we made it to Denver in time for lunch!
